On 23-24 May 2023, the ZMOS congress was held at the National Tennis Centre in Bratislava. Almost 1,300 delegates – mayors – gathered at the 34th Assembly of the Association of Towns and Communities of Slovakia (ZMOS). The two-day meeting of ZMOS’s highest body was the first meeting since the autumn municipal elections. As such, it also included the election of the association president and Control Commission members. The assembly determined eleven association priorities for the following year.
Waste management was an issue that resonated strongly with most of the attending mayors, especially support for waste sorting and recycling. Higher landfill costs are a strong motivation for municipalities and cities to sort waste, prevent waste, and increase recycling.
The Association of Towns and Communities of Slovakia (ZMOS) promotes modern self-government and responsible solutions. Our ESONA solution is aimed at municipalities and cities that need increased control over the waste collection process. The solution supports a transparent process of registration, management and collection of waste containers. This will enable the introduction of mass collection and waste container emptying, and thereby motivate citizens to sort waste, reducing waste volumes and related disposal costs.
